Reflection 9

Missile Room:

Write at least four sentences to explain: (do not just say  'groups are good. progress is good too' )
How did the changes in groups/locations/style affect you after lunch? You can comment on progress made, working with others, and group/steward dynamics.

Wheelhouse Room:

Missile Room: On a scale from 1 to 10 rate your understanding of today's material.
1 - I don't know what material you are talking about
5 - I will remember some of this material tomorrow
10 - I can explain this material to a group of 5 -year olds and they will get it.

Explain your rating.

If you worked with a TA, leave them a message in your comment.

Engine Room:
This morning, you had a productive, computer-free design discussion with your team as to how to build a multi-page website with a front-end/back-end architecture. How did this discussion differ from the planning discussion you had a few days ago for your story generator script? Address content as well as group dynamic.

  1. changing group helps me to remind the concepts after lunch because i helped my new partner to understand what he was doing wrong! :)

I understand the material, but I'm not sure if it's something that I could come up with on my own. More practice would be helpful.

  3. Probably around 6. I learned a lot but usually forget things by the next day. I was helped a lot and took notes so I hopefully it is more like a 7. All the TA's are very helpful and explain things well.

    1. I would rate my understanding as an 8. I feel like even though it took me a little bit longer to understand today, it is more clear than some other things we have learned.

  5. 7/10

I feel I have a fair understanding of the material and can work with and remember it tomorrow.

  6. 9. More or less the same as yesterday, but now I know which room is which.

I will definitely remember this material tomorrow, and I think that I have a pretty good grasp of it. However, I am unsure of how successful I will be at implementing the new material in future problems, which is why i gave my understanding an 8. More practice with today's material should solidify my understanding of it.

Today's class was fun. I understand the material for the most part, but I still make a lot of syntax errors that I only know once explained.
The TAs are very helpful and nice.

  9. Discussion was good
    We tried to be annoying
    With marquees, it worked.

because i added most of the stuff that i learned to my project.

    ReplyDelete
  12. We talked about more complicated connections, including html and css and stuff. 3 people talking also changed the way stuff was discussed as well.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It differed because we had to work more separately with this, but we had to communicate more.

    ReplyDelete
  14. We got a lot done, and are ready to present tomorrow.

    Very productive!

  15. 8.5 - I pretty much understand the material, but I probably wouldn't be able to explain it to 5-year olds because it's still somewhat complicated for most people and I'm not always the best at explaining things at a simpler level.

  16. It was pretty much the same, except web design was more involved( front-end ). There was less back-end stuff; it was just deciding whose program would be used for each app in the web app.

    ReplyDelete
  17. We actually got work done, designing the layout of the webpages and the structure of our files, instead of creating a bad and useless flowchart.

  18. The discussion was very effective.
We determined that marquees are very annoying.

Planning with partners differed in respect to the story generator due to the extra time needed to collaborate and organize the workload, as well as making our projects more compatible.

Personally, I found this project exponentially easier to complete by myself due to the flexibility and lack of file-sharing, but I trust that the skills gained from group work will be incredibly valuable in the future.

I definitely understood the material that we had done before lunch. The things that we did after lunch required a lot of explanation from the TAs, but after that I was able to understand the material. I think that there were a lot of complex parts to what we were doing today after lunch and that more practice on it would help clarify things.

  21. It differ cause' dis time we were mainly focusing on the front end code then de back end code.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. This one had alot less code and much more, (albeit simpler) design concepts and general outlining. In my previous planning, when I made the sentence gen with Benji, we had pretty much wrote out the code on the paper beforehand, which at the time had been useful, but now that I am more familiar with python coding, it really was not nessecary and alot of the work was structural. My group interaction started to consist more and more of double checking, bouncing ideas and making sure we were both on the same page about our code, and especially (also) github.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8 because I was able to code thing with minimal help from staff. I might not be able to explain the concept, but i can do it.

  24. Today's conversation was different was the story generator because we also needed to discuss folder structure today. In addition, my discussion went less into detail about the specifics of each element, since this is a bigger project.

    Random passage:
And besides if you'll let me help to undo it!' 'i shall sit here,' he said, turning to the confused clamour of the mock turtle's heavy sobs. lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would feel with all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days. the can guess that,' she added aloud. 'do you take me for a dunce? go on!' 'i'm a poor man, your majesty,' said the queen, turning purple. 'i won't!' said alice. 'off with her

  25. In this discussion we developed the layout of our folder structures instead of just talking about the steps to code. This helped us realize how to keep an orderly directories running as well as introduced us to __init__.py.

  26. I didn't really feel too changed by the change in groups. Either way, I did hit a stumbling block while trying to progress and my group partner helped me out, which was nice. It was, overall, a rather pleasant experience because I came out with a better understanding of what I was doing than before the group work. On the other hand, I really hate doing assignments that don't give you much creative freedom, which we had to do as group work. With no wiggle room, it becomes rather monotonous trying to get our programs to look exactly like the demo examples, or the description given in the assignment.

  27. First of all I'm too bad explaining but i will say a 10 because I was able to understand the material and also i think i will remember everything that i learned today. Also I,m really happy because i learned new ways of do stuffs.

  28. This discussion differed from the one about the story generator since they (obviously) were about two different things being created through code. They differed in that we were unused to having computer-free discussion at the story generator discussion a few days ago while we were more experienced today with the multi-page website discussion today and were able to outline the website more efficiently than before.

although I'm a bit behind I basically understand what I should.

    4 - I don't understand a wide range of things that we learned today. I have to admit that I understand some concepts and how to use them specifically, but the main problem I have is applying the things we learned to my own messy code. Basically, I have trouble understanding the general picture. Once I get that, I most likely (maybe) will be able to complete the rest. Of course, not on my own, that's impossible. ;w;

    ReplyDelete
  31. my progress only changed because of he difficulty of the problems after we came back from lunch.I've never really had any problems with my groups.*insert two sentences here*.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 5 - I would've been 100% lost without assistance. I'd be lying if I said that I understand how everything is supposed to work. I suppose that trying to learn another language isn't meant to be easy though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The group work is beenefical. I feell like what i dont know my partner probably does. Also that we could feed off each others engery wnd correct each other's mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 3 because Nolan and I took 2 hours for 2 problems.
I don't know what a TA is or what I'm really doing, but whoever helps me knows his or her stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I guess groups helped me remember concepts. Partners and stewards were a great help.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I rate today's material to be 8. I understand the ArrayList better and how to create a local ball that exist only inside the function. Thanks Yulia for the one on one help and TA Aidan for explaining. I can feel the difficulty is increasing exponentially, but I'm on pace.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My rating is at a 6 because I understand some material but still have a little trouble.
Working with the ta's is very helpful because they make things more understandable.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 6 - because I would not be able to remember everything, working with someone would probably help me remember more I think.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 5/6 since I am not that confident that I can completely remember the information and be able to reiterate it tomorrow. Also, some of the later problems were pretty difficult to grasp at first, but after the TAs explained it, it was a bit clearer. However, I think I would understand it better with more practice.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Today, out of all the things we learned, I rate my understanding of the concepts with a 6/10. I feel as though I can use all of the techniques I learned today to make a beautiful code but I don't think that I can put them all together without needing to check in for help just yet. So far though, I can see myself making great progress.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The changes in groups affected me because now I worked with people I barely see,
so they were closer to being strangers than people in the same classroom as me. I worked with someone who helped understand some stuff. Working with her was no harder than working with others normally is. We made more progress than i would make on my own.

  42. I would describe my growth as a thinker and coder to be trendmenous. Now i pay attention to details more in order to have less syntax errors.
