  2. The talk was very interesting and now I am more familiar with what sklearn is used for.
Pair programming, although in the beginning delayed our planning process due to the fact that I was unfamiliar with my partner's code eventually helped us develop a functioning script.

  3. It showed me the powers of AI

It helped me learn how to work together

  4. 1. We did a little on machine learning in class, but I never thought about applying it to games.
    2. There was an alternative perspective that led to better code in some cases and made it easier to solve issues in the code.

  5. 1. It reinforced my prior knowledge of learning programs.
    2. It helped me by forcing me to think about what I write in my programs.

  6. 1. Tommy's talk was actually pretty interesting. I loved his sense of humor, especially when he used terms like, "+50 deliciousnesses." It sparked a hint of interest for me to start learning Python (which I'll be taking next year as a regular course).

    2. This journey is great, except that I get seasick and I hate the ocean. It is horrifying. Anyways, literally, I find this awesome. I'm actually learning stuff that I used to think was random numbers and letters and now I can finally get to show my friends my every-growing skills and make them think that I'm a total weirdo, which is a normal expectation of myself.

  7. Tommy's talk was cool
    I'll look up neural networks
    And find out some more

    The pair programming
    Was enjoyable, and good
    Both roles ended well.

  8. 1. Tommy's talk made me aspire to want to write semi-complicated code as fast as him one day. Also, I want to train a machine to program AI one day or some kind of machine learning.

    2. As the co-driver, I could spot the errors that my partner was making in real time and offer suggestions for the next step and vice versa.

  9. 1. It showed a good example of reverse engineering other peoples code. This is inspiring because I defintley think it could be quite cool to borrow some code and change things, it sort of reinforces the idea that the computer is working for you, and you can use it to do anything. 2. Pair programming allowed me to go through the whole process without any syntax errors, making the development process quite a bit smoother and accelerate my ability to reach a workable version.

  10. 1) It gave a bit of an overview on SVM's, in implementation and use.
    2) It was useful to have 2 people, since the second person can check whether the code is optimized.

  12. 1. I thought the computer learning was very interesting. I was however disappointed that we didn't have enough time to see the computer learn to play the game better.

    2. Being the co-driver allowed me to think about what we were trying to do without thinking about how the code would be written.

  14. 1. Tommy's talk inspired me to further look into machine learning
    2. Pair programming allowed me to not worry too much about syntax since my partner can correct me

  15. 1. It taught me some cool things about machine learning and stuff.
    2. It altered my development process by making it slower. As the co-driver I felt bored and the driver seemed to be moving slowly. I think he felt the same when I was the driver and he was the co-driver.

  16. 1. Tommy's talk enlightened me by showing me that reinforced learning allows a program to self-learn after multiple trials have been done to make it similar to an AI.
    2. Pair programming altered my developing process since as a co-driver, I got to see the perspective of telling someone what to do without showing them how to program. As a driver, it was similar to how I usually code except my partner who is now the co-driver helped tell me about the mistakes I made in my code and allowed me to fix them.

1: Tommy's talk revealed some of the applications of Artificial Intelligence and statistics that can be programmed (such as the support vector machine) . I receives somewhat of a background in how these two ideas can merge together.

2: Pair programming gave each partner time to review each other's work for errors and improvements, potentially increasing quality and efficiency of work.

  20. 1) His talk went into a more code heavy version of neural networking that ive always had an interest in. Tommys talk also introduced me to pycharm! ive been using it for only a little as of now but I already like it a lot.
    2) Being the co-driver was very simple. Just observing code and not really doing anything, as my partner never made any mistakes. I think I only ever had to say "You missed a ' ' ' ". Being the driver was more entertaining as we got a considerable amount done. Finished out goal and then some.

  21. 1. He inspired me to try harder on playing the mini game when you have no internet connection.
    2. So far it has been enjoyable. I expected to actually be left behind or to get scolded because it takes a bit longer for me to understand certain things, but I’ve actually gotten help and learned several things. To which I am grateful. heh i sound old.

  22. Tommy's talk enlightened me about how AI programs worked and how interrelated statistics is with computer science.
I feel that I have learned a lot since the first day of SHIP, as well as a lot of exposure to what computer science is like. Many people told me how boring computer science would be and that I would most likely not enjoy coding/programming, but coming here has affirmed and increased my interest in computer science. I expected to do cool things and so far we have. :D The people in SHIP have been very helpful and supportive with each other, making the environment a no judgment zone.

  25. 1: It revealed that artificial intelligence/machine learning aren't necessarily as complicated as they seem. Also, it showed that Google Chrome has a hidden game that you can play when offline.
    2: It didn't.

  26. 1) I learned that robots are stupid, and should be called "robutts".
    2) I did learn that coding is an incredibly painful process, and should be killed with fire. I expected to learn more, but now I realize that those were stupid expectations. On the bright side, everyone seems pretty cheerful here, so that's nice.

  27. Tommy's talk was cool because i now know how to play a game w/o Internet. It was also very interesting. so far everything is great. I am learning so much and testing my newly acquired skills by trying to create fun programs. I learned a lot especially with the help of Ta's (especially Marlena even though she is not a Ta

  29. 1. I thought the learning T-rex game was cool, though, alas, we could not see the computer master the game.
    2. SHIP has been really fun, and I know lots more about computers than I used to.

  30. 1. It inspired me to continue learning code so i can modify games just like he did.
I also liked the fact that he got a job for coding.
    2. I liked the journey to SHIP so far. Even though the code might sometimes be hard to accomplish, they are there to help me through the process of learning it.

  32. I really enjoyed the talk today. I liked learning about how artificial intelligence is actually created, and I'd be interested to explore the programming in artificial intelligence. It's possible that some day we may be able to program computers to think like humans.

I feel good about the way things have gone in SHIP. For one, I've been getting some practice in computer programming, which is good since before the summer it was a while since I did computer programming. I also like learning about the Processing language and how it is used to create visuals. It's also useful that the TAs come around and help out with problems, as well as give us new tasks when we've completed the first one. I also feel that I've made a lot of new friends at CStuy, which allows me to expand my social circle. Overall, I've enjoyed my CStuy experience.

  33. 1. Tommy's talk at first was nothing but a mess. But his talk became interesting when he started to show what you can do if you challenge yourself. Also I'm glad that he used his time to come and show us some of his work and how he do it.

    2. Actually, I feel amazing with this internship because there is always something new to do so i never get bored or something.

  34. Tommy's talk is inspiring because there lots we can do around us when we know how to code.

I think the SHIP program is good to work with because we are learning new things everyday that could help us do more in the future when coding.

  35. 1. The talk gave me an overview of SVM's which I had no prior knowledge.
    2. I have really improved over this period of time so far. Having the TA's around and partners really helped with that. I hope to gain more knowledge and experience in computer programming.

  36. 1) I was already pretty excited about machine learning before hand, as a long time ago I saw this really cool video showing a computer learning what the number 8 looks like and then being able to draw it's own. And it's just damn cool on it's own.

    2) it's been really good. I'm really glad I'm able to review and expand on the stuff I learned in school, in a new language that's much more versatile. For the most part the other students are also excited to be here, which is nice. The TAs and relaxed environment make for a significantly improved learning enviornment (when compared to school, which is not at all relaxed, and home which has no TAs to assist). Looking forward to the rest.

  39. Tommy talked about an idea similar to big data that allows you to make predictions about a subject. So far, I feel like I'm finally getting a firm grip on java as a language and with the help of my colleagues and the exceptional TA's, (instructor included), I can safely say that I moved from having absolutely no experience in java to grasping a strong amount of the key concepts I need to actually do something. The road through Java continues and I plan on learning how to make a simple video game by the end of this program.

  40. 1. Tommy's talk did not bring any new ideas for me, since I was aware of AI and how it works generally. However, he did show how every AI is not the same and each algorithym creates an AI that does a specific things. The best thing is some AI remember the previous things and learn to avoid the mistakes similar to how human works.
    2. Although SHIP inspired me into programming more and helped me understand some of my electronic project code, the program skipped over much of the basic of how the structure of Java works and how each command work. We just learn how to use it. That's great that we know how to use it, but that only helps on a specific project. It gets more confusing if we try to apply it to something new since we have no idea how the command works in the deeper level like how does Array creates and store memory and how to access it. I understand we can't learn all since the program is only a month.

  41. I liked Tommy's presentation of the computer playing the game.
Ever since I joined the program, I have become very passionate about programming. I wish my school offered me the avenue to learn this, but learning it through CSTUY has been thus far interesting. I hope that by the end of the program, I gain enough basic knowledge that would help me learn other languages on my own, or even help me program my arduino uno. The help structure and community is fantastic.
