Reflection 3

1. What are some ways you think the grouping activity helped you choose and work with your new partner? OR How does working with different partners help you learn programming?

2. What did you think about the guest talk? What kinds of things did the talk make you think about differently? (did you have any cool ideas at the talk you wanted to share?)

  1. The grouping activity made me walk around and talk to new people. Because of this, I found someone with similar interests and chose them as a partner. The guest talk was really interesting. The speaker shows how programmers play a big part in companies and creating new ideas. The speaker got me to speculate on new ideas that can help people and also make me a lot of money :P

  3. 1. Working with partners allows you to get another persons perspective on how to do something or even new ideas on what to do instead and overall introduces you to new things.
    2. I thought that today's guest talk was interesting. For example, now I will think about making money in a new light and maybe even consider selling/renting out some things that i do not mind sharing with others.

  4. The grouping activity allowed us to meet new people and determine who we would work with best. Working with others on programming benefits us since sharing ideas with each other allows us to see certain problems in new ways.

I thought the guest talk was very interesting. I never realized that certain situations, such as renting apartments or cars, could be solved using collaborative programming! (I must say, though, I find it a bit creepy that Amazon wants access to people's cars as part of their delivery.)

One idea I came up with was that if people live in a local area, they could improve driving directions by writing descriptions of certain parts of the road. Often times when I look at directions sites such as Google Maps or Mapquest I often find that their descriptions can be somewhat confusing. So I came up with the idea that people who know the area can simplify the explanation and make it less confusing.

  5. The guest talk was cool
    Crowdsourcing, group consumption
    Eager to hear more.

  6. 1. (Answering second part of the question) Working with different partners have helped me learn programming more efficiently because it boosts my confidence of it. In case I forget how to do a certain thing or make a simple mistake, I have the partner to correct me. That way, I am less likely to fall for the mistake in the future.

    2. The guest talk was very interesting. Although I felt like sleeping, because I haven't eaten lunch yet and was running out of energy, I still learned plenty of things that I am sure to search on the web when I get the chance. I'd rather have the guest talks AFTER lunch, because I think everyone is really tired at that point. Nothing really made me change perspectives on things, everything the speaker talked about was pretty new territory. I also do not have any cool ideas to share, because they're not unique or creative enough, or realistic.

  7. 2. I thought it was very interesting when the speaker was talking about computational creativity. I found that to be amazing.

  8. 2. The talk was interesting. I did not have any cool ideas....sadly ):

  9. 1) It gave me a conversation topic of sorts to use so I wasn't lost upon meeting someone new. I was able to find a partner that I shared interests with, so we had similar ideas of what we wanted to do with the mini project thing.

    2) it was really interesting. Turns out there is a lot of stuff I don't know about how companies like Amazon and Airbnb function, and they deal with big data in more ways than I originally believed. I also now have more ammunition for the next time someone tells me robots are bad for the world.

  10. The speaker was interesting and showed me that there are still jobs available even though there don't seem to be any.

  15. The group activity helped me work with my new partner because it helped me find what we have in common. Working with different partners help me learn programming because I get to hear new ideas from different people and different ways to go about creating things.
The guest talk was interesting because it gave me more knowledge about what people or businesses can do with the access to technology and data.

  16. 1. You get to experience all different kinds of struggles. Collaboration with different ppl enables you to circumvent problems in new ways every time.
    2. The guest talk was real and made me less depressed. With all the technology prevalent in the world today, I couldn't picture any further innovation or usefulness in programming or further improvement in technology. Now, I realize that human labor isn't as useless as it'll simply become more technical in the near and distant future. Idk what I wanna do when I grow up since my "sperm donor idea" isn't original and is already a success story.

  19. 1. The grouping activity helped me learn about my new partner showing what interests and hobbies we have in comman. This activity also shows that in computer programming you also have to be social with others.
    2. The guest talk was very interesting and informative. It showed me that programmers are very useful in the business world and most of these businesses need programmers to run their business. The guest talk showed me that their is a wide variety of businesses with the help of programmers.

Because #1 doesn't suit our activity, a random sentence generator will answer that question:

1: The educational wonderful cooperation that the partner learned wonderfully learned the people. The activity collaborated the cooperation. The cooperation beneath a people towards the partner which a helpful activity helpfully collaborated wonderfully worked together.

2: The talk was wonderful. I began to think more about how projects can help others on a more global scale, and started coming up with fresh ideas. The speaker really did a good job making a clean and powerful talk, which I'm sure everyone benefited greatly from.

  24. 1. Working with different helps you learn programming because it introduces you to various styles of coding and its actually a very great experience to work with a diverse group of programmers over time. I realized that a new style of programming can help you develop a different approach to problem solving that can be more efficient and productive.

    2. The guest talk was actually quite entertaining and very informative. The guest speaker came with information about how the tech industry is growing for the future and made connections pertaining to the shift of labor from one field to another. On a personal note, it encouraged me to think about how I can share things through crowdsourcing mediums.

    2. The idea of data becoming a huge important resource is an interesting idea but the things computers are being created to do are a bit unnerving. Things like creativity and art shouldn't be a computer's thing until a human-like AI is achieved or something.

  28. Some ways I thinks the grouping activity helped me choose a new partner is that it helped me get to see what the other person interest are and what they are like. I think the guest talk went well. I found out things that I didn't know before. The guest talk made me think of how many things you can do to make money from doing the simplest thing.

  29. The guest talk was very interesting, I realize now how crucial us programmers are to these corporations. I learned how various companies are now using data mining/analysis, and how they now use this data to drive profit. I would like to learn which specific algorithms are used in this process.

  31. 1. Working with a partner helped with brainstorming of ideas.
    2. The guest talk was informative. I learned new things:Statistics Predictive Modeling, Crowd-Sourcing, and Collaborative Consumption. Also that relying on computers in jobs only moves the expertise into a different domain, and doesn't reduce job opportunities. That idea yet is still not that comforting.

  32. 1.Working with different partners helps me learn since each partner has some expertise on an area(s) in python and they help me better understand python when I don't understand what the teacher says even if he reiterates what he says with more clarification.
    2. I thought the guest talk was intriguing since the talk helped show me that the recommendations provided by companies like Amazon are actually based off of data based on the products that were bought frequently by many of the consumers that bought that one certain product from the company. The speaker got me to realize that labor isn't being reduced by technology, but rather technology is aiding labor in a fashion that it helps provide even more labor than before and allows normal people to become entrepreneurs.

  33. 1. Working in group allows the exchange of skills, information and ideas. It also decrease the amount of errors as one person code and the other read the code. Since each person has his or her own style or method of coding, by experiencing coding with different people, it allows me to improve my method by either using their more efficient way or implementing part of their style into my own.
    2. The guest talk was interesting since it expands my knowledge in the computer science field. I never new that captcha was used for object or word recognition, I always thought it was a security system. The crowdfunding in general amazing to me, but when I think about it, it's scary if it falls into the wrong hands. It turns all of the consumers into testing mice. Although it benefits both the corporation and the consumers, it actually hurt the consumers by exposing their privacy. Who knows if the government ever use this method to control and manipulate the mind of its citizen. It might scare some of us since it's still new, but knowing both the pros and cons before exposing yourself is always the best way.
