Reflection 15

Everyone:

What did you get out of today's talk? What prior views of yours changed as a result of the talk? (Perhaps regarding career paths/job opportunities/startup culture/computer-generated graphics/etc.)

Missile /Wheelhouse Room

How did working to meet a project deadline influence your workflow today? What do you think you will be able to accomplish by the deadline now that you are in the middle of your projects? (Deadline is end of the day on Wednesday)

Engine Room

  2. Not too much i mean the problems are still the same but we are working on it. I think we will be able to accomplish the game by the timelines but not the way we wanted.

  3. i did not really get anything out of the talk, i did not know the deadline until now, but i am kinda nervous about finishing. i don't know if me and Darius can finish by the deadline.

  4. What did you get out of today's talk?
I under stand how animating works better.

What prior views of yours changed as a result of the talk?
I didn't realize how much of the world was affected by what we Google/buy?

How did working to meet a project deadline influence your work flow today?
we are working more efficiently and solved many bugs.

What do you think you will be able to accomplish by the deadline now that you are in the middle of your projects?
    everything plus the end picture.

  5. I learned that it's possible to change your career focus within the tech industry.
A deadline gave us a new sense of urgency. I feel confident that we will be finished by Wednesday.

  6. Today's talk was inspiring in that it showed the seemingly infinite opportunities available to those with knowledge of computer science/programming.
Working to meet a deadline has caused me to focus on implementing goals and breaking the project up into pieces for maximum efficiency. I think that our code is pretty functional at this point, so we can work in making it look nicer/ adding more features.

  7. I enjoyed learning about computer graphics in today's talk. I feel that being able to use computer graphics would work not just in animation but also in some simulations. I would also be interested to learn how the computer is programmed to display the 3D images.

I feel that my group made good progress in our project. I think that if we continue to work together and solve some of the code problems, we will be able to meet our deadline.

  8. 1. I liked the talk, I always thought animation was pretty easy until he told us how much really goes into it.
    2. I think we will be able to finish this project. We probably won't have lots of extras, but the game will be done.

  9. I thought today's talk was interesting. I hadn't really considered that career path before.

Working on a deadline always gives me more motivation. My group's project is going well.

  10. I learned that computer science relates to quite a wide variety of career fields, and that people have time.

I think the deadlines changed the work ethic in the way that my group was a lot more efficient.

  11. I was impressed by the different times he was able to start a company, shift focus, and start another

The deadline gives us on idea of what pace we should be working at. I believe we should be able to finish the fundamentals by then, and hopefully have time to work on graphics

  12. I clarified a lot about how 3D animation is done. I knew some of it a little fuzzy, but it's actually a lot cooler than I thought. And I am just amazed that it's possible for anybody to be associated with that many companies.

At this point it would take quite a tragedy for us to not finish the bare minimum by tuesday. My hope is that we can add in regions and some cool graphics as well.

  13. Today's talk was unfitting for me, as I didn't understand anything because it was of higher expertise. None of my views changed as a result of this talk, as I did not understand it that much.

Workflow did not actually change that much, or at least how I thought it would be. We set pretty easy and generic goals for ourselves, and we reached it! We feel super accomplished, also due to our bosses' support! I think that after today's work, we can boost up and add many more features to our project.

  14. We are getting closer to finishing

  15. I like the talk because it shows how what we are doing here is demonstrated throughtout careers.
working to meet a deadline is helpful because we swt daily goals that we can actually complete to progress in the game.

  16. Meeting this deadline made my workflow more better for me cause I want a head start. Today's talk made me aware of multiple job opertunities.

  17. 1. From the talk that we had today, I got that we have no understanding of anything much but triangles and lines. I knew that studies of triangles are the basis for our understanding of video games etc,.
    2. I think that we will be able to get a ROUGH sketch of what we are planning to achieve by the deadline.(fingers crossed though)

  18. 1.i learned that i can do a lot of different things in my career
2.we will finish by the deadline

  19. The talk was interesting, but he repeated a lot of the topics which made it boring. I do not plan to go into animation, but I am into modeling as an engineer.

I do not think the project will be completely finished, but at least we will have a working game. It won't be as interesting as we want it to be due to time limit.

  20. I terms of the talk, I would've liked him talking more extensively about animation. He was really cool though, and we had a short convo afterwards.

  21. I realized that Firefox doesn't support .mp3 audio in the html.

We learned to do stuff in Javascript.

  22. The talk was interesting, and showed me that careers are not locked in, and that they can change. (In his case, it was extremely varied).

As a group we did not encounter any problems, but I hit a brick wall with having to go through many tedious API documentations.

  23. The talk was boring.
We will be able to get the basic game working but no details.

  24. 1. My views have not changed because I already knew that there are very cool things that can be done in cs, even if similar things have already been done
    2. Storing a variable after refreshing the page

  25. We had trouble grabbing images from the Flicker API so we decided to learn how to use the Google image API instead.

  26. We realized that a comment section can only work with a server (I think) and we couldn't really figure out how to get it to work with python. We think that we are going to try to public our website on a free domain to get it to work.

  27. 1. I thought that today's talk was really cool. It was really interesting to learn abiut how 3-D animation is made.

    2. In my group I was tasked with writing the html and the css for our website and I quickly realized that I knew very little css so I was faced with the challenge of teaching myself enough to make the website which I was largely successful with.

  28. 1. Not much. It was a very interesting talk though.
    2. An obstacle we have hit is to find a API that generates conspiracy theories( I spent an hour looking for it). We overcame by not using an API that generates conspiracy theories but a search engine that looked up a theory for us.

  29. A significant obstacle was taking bits of code from everyone's stuff and dropping them together into our code. We had some small problems with our CSS and that was annoying, but overall once we made sure to maintain proper github procedure it was pretty smooth sailing and we got the job done

  31. 1.Today's talk informed me a lot about 3D modeling and revealed to me that 3D modeling uses a variety of triangles and "mesh" and "skeletons" that allow designs to stand out in 3D and be able to move;one such example is Shrek from Shrek, who was made using 3D modeling.
    2. A significant obstacle we encountered was formatting the website so that it would follow the outline we imagined it would look like. We overcame it using the width and height attribute and using percent values and pixels to modify the amount of space each divider took.

  32. 1, I really enjoyed the guest speaker's presentation today. It was extremely informative and it especially showed with his knowledge in public speaking. He was loud and was able to keep me engaged. I learned a lot about animation from him and am excited to do more.

2.A challenge that we encountered today was with dictionaries as many of their APIs are filled with dictionaries in dictionaries in dictionaries. Thus, we had to call a TA (who really helped!)

  33. Today I learned that
    animation is cool, and
    computers arent odd.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Until today's talk
    I didn't know much about
    How to map textures

    I really enjoyed
    Learning the geometry
    Behind the mapping.

I did actually really like learning how exactly 3D animation is made possible; I would never have though of using triangles or squares to make an image like that.
One significant obstacle today was trying to integrate javascript that looped marquees into our html. We overcame this through a lot of trial and error, and the help of a TA.

  35. Adris Jaoutakas (Ignore profile name)

A significant obstacle encountered today was that of making users and accounts work. The issue had to do with login and refreshing the flask application, but was fixed with Flask's session class.

  36. The talk actually taught me more about older animation than newer, but that's mostly because I already knew most of the 3D animation info. Though the algorithms at the end were new to me and were pretty interesting. As for the deadline stuff, I feel we can meet the requirements we had before Thursday, and we just combined our code today and it all works (much to my surprise) very smoothly.

  37. 1) The older method of drawing graphics was new to me.
    2) The python modules for the console has proved to be a problem, that we haven't fixed yet.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We've started having bugs that we didn't see before. As the code becomes more complex, we got problems with stuff that we thought would work fine. This is still a problem that we are currently working to overcome now that we've integrated a post/comments system.
